You don’t grab a bag of Haribo Goldbears and start ranking flavors, you just eat them, but once you slow it down and actually compare them side by side, the differences jump out fast. In this taste test, I put original Haribo Goldbears, wild berry, tropical, and sour varieties up against each other to find out which flavor really stands on top. I have always enjoyed these, but this one turned into something I didn’t expect at all, especially after going back and eating them again after the video was done.
Mint candy may get all the attention after meals, but gummy candy like this lives in a completely different world. Haribo built something that goes beyond just a snack. It is something people grow up with, something they keep coming back to, and something that works just as well for adults as it does for kids.
Haribo was founded in 1920 in Bonn, Germany, by Hans Riegel. The name comes from the first two letters of his first and last name and the city, HA RI BO. In 1922, the company introduced its first gummy product, originally shaped like dancing bears. Over time, those evolved into the Goldbears that became one of the most recognizable candies in the world. Their combination of chewy texture and fruit flavors is what helped them spread globally, and today they remain one of the most popular gummy candies on the market.
Original Haribo Goldbears
Starting with the original mix, this is the one that built the brand. The flavors include orange, lemon, pineapple, raspberry, and strawberry.
Right away, you get that familiar chew and balance of sweetness. Each flavor brings something a little different, but together they create that classic Goldbears experience that people expect every time they open a bag.
Final score, 9 out of 10.
Wild Berry Haribo Goldbears
The wild berry mix shifts everything into a stronger direction. This includes blueberry, strawberry, wild cherry, blackberry, and raspberry.
This one hits harder right away. The flavors feel more intense and more consistent across the board. Every handful has a bold taste that stands out from the original mix.
This one raised the level immediately.
Final score, 11 out of 10.
Tropical Haribo Goldbears
The tropical mix brings in kiwi, pineapple, paradise punch, and passion fruit. It is also marketed as a limited edition, which adds a little extra interest.
This one had a lot of energy. The flavors were bright and fun, and it clearly stood apart from the original. It did not quite match the wild berry mix, but it easily moved ahead of the classic version.
Final score, 10.5 out of 10.
Sour Haribo Goldbears
This was the one that could go either way.
The sour coating changed everything. It added a completely different layer to the candy, and once it hit, it took over. The combination of sour and sweet created the most exciting flavor experience in the entire test.
This one ran away with it.
Final score, 20 out of 10.
Final Ranking
- Sour Haribo Goldbears, 20
- Wild Berry Haribo Goldbears, 11
- Tropical Haribo Goldbears, 10.5
- Original Haribo Goldbears, 9
Final Verdict
This is where the variations really made the difference. The original Goldbears still deliver exactly what people expect, but once you move into the different flavor sets, the experience changes completely.
The wild berry mix showed how much stronger the candy can be when the flavors are pushed. The tropical mix added something fun and different. But the sour version completely took over the competition.
That is what makes this category so interesting. It is not just one product, it is how far that product can go when you start changing the flavors.
