There are certain pizzerias on Long Island that instantly feel comfortable the second you walk through the door. Leonardo’s Pizza Cafe in Hauppauge has that kind of atmosphere. It feels like an old school neighborhood pizza place built for people who appreciate traditional New York pizza made by someone who has spent a lifetime behind the counter.
Located right off Motor Parkway in the middle of Hauppauge’s busy business district, Leonardo’s has quietly built a reputation over nearly two decades serving workers, locals, and pizza lovers looking for a dependable slice that tastes authentic. This review turned into one of those experiences that reminded me why I enjoy doing these videos so much.
I stopped in and ordered two classic tests for any pizzeria, a regular slice and a white slice. Both turned out to be outstanding.
In the video below, I visit Leonardo’s Pizza Cafe in Hauppauge, New York, to try their regular slice and white slice while breaking down the crust, sauce, cheese, ricotta, and overall old school New York pizza experience.
Leonardo’s Pizza Cafe Location and History
Leonardo’s Pizza Cafe is located at 656B Motor Parkway in Hauppauge, New York, right off Exit 55 of the Long Island Expressway and directly across from Wendy’s. The restaurant has spent more than nineteen years serving the busy Hauppauge corporate and industrial community, becoming a reliable neighborhood stop for pizza, heroes, pasta, wraps, salads, and Italian comfort food.
The owner has been making pizza his entire life, and that experience shows immediately once the food hits the table. During my visit, one of the first things that stood out was how friendly everyone was. That matters to me. A pizzeria becomes part of your routine when it feels welcoming and comfortable, almost like a neighborhood extension of your own kitchen. Leonardo’s had exactly that kind of vibe.
The Menu at Leonardo’s Pizza Cafe
One thing that separates Leonardo’s from many traditional pizzerias is the size and variety of the menu.
The pizza selection ranges from regular slices and Sicilian pies to specialty creations like Chicken Bacon Ranch, Buffalo Chicken, Grandma Alla Vodka, White Pizza, Margarita Pizza, and deep dish slices. The restaurant also offers stuffed pizza rolls, calzones, strombolis, heroes, gyros, wraps, paninis, pasta dishes, baked pasta specialties, salads, and Italian entrees.
Some menu highlights include:
- Grandma Pizza with imported San Marzano tomato sauce
- White Pizza with ricotta, mozzarella, Romano cheese, garlic, and oil
- Chicken Balsamic Pizza with roasted peppers and fresh mozzarella
- Panini Europa with grilled chicken and balsamic reduction
- Chicken Napoli with spinach, mushrooms, and artichoke hearts
- Leonardo’s Salad with crispy chicken and shredded mozzarella
- Classic calzones loaded with ricotta and mozzarella
The menu feels built for both quick lunch crowds and people looking for full Italian comfort food dinners.
Regular Slice Review
The regular slice immediately impressed me before I even took the first bite. I could tell just by looking at the crust color that the dough had been cooked correctly. The crust had that perfect golden balance between crispy and chewy that defines a really good New York slice.
The first thing that hit me was the cheese. It tasted fresh immediately, and then the sauce followed right behind it. The sauce itself landed perfectly between sweet and tangy with just the right amount spread across the slice. You could actually see how balanced everything was just by looking at the pizza.
The dough might have been my favorite part. There was texture, crispness, chewiness, and flavor all working together. Nothing felt rushed or undercooked. This was an old-school slice made by someone who clearly understands traditional pizza-making.
I gave the regular slice an 8.2 out of 10, one of the highest scores I have handed out in Hauppauge.
White Slice Review
The white slice delivered the exact same level of quality. Once again, the dough stood out immediately. Great pizza always starts with the dough, and Leonardo’s clearly takes that seriously.
The ricotta cheese was excellent, creamy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. Honestly, after tasting that ricotta, I immediately started thinking about how good their calzones must be. If they are using that same ricotta inside a calzone with a side of sauce, that has to be something special.
The seasoning on top fit perfectly without overpowering the slice. Every bite tasted balanced and comfortable, almost like classic homemade Italian cooking translated into pizza form.
The white slice scored an 8.1 out of 10, nearly matching the regular slice completely.
Why Leonardo’s Pizza Cafe Stands Out
What makes Leonardo’s work so well is that nothing about it feels forced or trendy. This is traditional pizza made by someone who has spent decades learning the craft. The owner has been there for over twenty years, and that consistency matters.
The atmosphere also makes a difference. Friendly service, good conversation, and genuinely welcoming people can turn a quick pizza stop into a place you want to revisit regularly. Leonardo’s had that neighborhood feeling from the moment I walked in.
Final Verdict
Leonardo’s Pizza Cafe turned into one of the most enjoyable pizza review experiences I have had in a while. The regular slice was excellent, the white slice was just as strong, and the entire experience felt authentic from beginning to end.
