There are certain places that keep coming up over and over again when people talk about great pizza on Long Island, and Victor’s Pizza and Pasta House in Melville was one of those names I kept hearing. After getting recommendation after recommendation from viewers, I finally made the trip to see if it lived up to the hype. What I found was one of the busiest pizzerias I’ve walked into in a long time, and a place that clearly has people coming back again and again.
In the old days, working as a journalist, most of my food recommendations came from friends or, of course, newspaper reviews. However, since I entered the world of social media, specifically TikTok and Instagram Reels, I get a lot of recommendations after I post my videos. This particular pizzeria was one of the most highly recommended places I received from readers and viewers. So when one of these comes up, I always make it a point to visit.
Victor’s Pizza and Pasta House in Melville is located on Broadhollow Road, just north of the Northern State Parkway and the Long Island Expressway. It sits on one of the busiest stretches of roadway on Long Island. Route 110 is home to many legendary businesses and is surrounded by residential areas. You open up a good place on Route 110 or Broadhollow Road, and people will come, and they will keep coming. That was very clear here, as this was one of the busiest pizzerias I’ve ever visited in Suffolk County.
The parking lot was jammed, but I was still able to find a spot as I headed into the pizzeria. The tables were full everywhere, and many people were waiting at the counter. What does that say, well that’s easy, it means this is a great pizzeria. Places that are this good are always packed. I always get concerned when I walk into a place during lunchtime, and it’s empty, which usually doesn’t bode well, but not here. Not at Victor’s. This place was rocking and rolling.
I always order a regular slice because that’s the one I compare to other pizzerias. That’s the foundation of any pizza review for me. And then the real challenge is finding the specialty slice, the one I’m hoping will really stand out. The one I can rave about and turn people on to so they’ll go check it out themselves. Because in the end, what I’m really trying to do is turn people on to great food. That’s what we do as journalists and reviewers. It’s like in the old days when you told your friends about a great restaurant, and they went there and thanked you for it. That’s always the goal. I don’t like writing bad reviews, I really don’t, but I have to be honest, and those will come around occasionally. That’s not something to worry about here. Victor’s is a powerhouse.
The Regular Slice
Everyone always tells me I should order a fresh pie, but that’s not always easy to do. I like to order slices that are already sitting there, because that’s how I’ve eaten pizza my whole life. You walk into a pizzeria, you get a slice, that’s how I judge it. But when I walked in, they just happened to have a fresh pie coming out of the oven, and that always makes me smile.
The problem with a fresh pie sometimes is that it’s so hot it’s difficult to taste right away. That was the challenge I faced here. It was also a little thin, so it was starting to fall apart. I started the review, then stopped, because I could already tell how good the sauce and cheese were, but the heat was going to affect a fair assessment.
The staff was also very friendly, and while that never changes my honesty about the food, it does make you want to give the place every chance. So I put the slice down, went to the other one, and came back to it. In the video, you’ll see edits, so you won’t see that happen in real time, but that’s exactly how it went. Make sure to watch the video below, because you’ll see my real reactions. In the end, the regular slice was excellent. The sauce stood out immediately. The cheese was smooth and blended perfectly, and the dough had that golden finish, cooked just right. This was a high-quality slice all around.
The Specialty Slice
What I always look forward to is the specialty slice. Sometimes it outshines the regular slice, sometimes it doesn’t, and that’s okay. But when there’s a great one, that’s usually the slice people talk about the most. The one recommended to me here was outstanding. The sausage margherita slice, with fresh tomatoes, really delivered. It was a little messy, and you definitely need a plate for this one. This is not a walk down the street slice. But sometimes that doesn’t matter. Sometimes it’s just about the experience, and this one delivered that completely.
Conclusion
Would I recommend Victor’s. If you watched the video and read this review, I think the answer is pretty clear. I absolutely recommend this pizzeria. There were so many specialty slices available, and when you taste a sauce like the one they’re using here, both on the regular and specialty slices, you know it carries through everything they serve. Victor’s delivers high quality across the board, the sauce, the dough, the cheese, all of it works. This is a great pizzeria, and it’s definitely worth checking out.
