Taglio Pizza Review

If you are someone who follows pizza trends, reviews, and videos, you’ve probably heard about Taglio Pizza. The pizzeria, which has two locations in Mineola and Massapequa on Long Island, has recently been in the news because it was ranked as the number three pizzeria in the United States by an Italian pizza website based in Italy. Now, that’s a pretty bold statement. Of course, publicity like that means big business for a pizzeria, as thousands of social media users will flock to these two locations to find out if it really does rate that high. And of course, I am one of them. Because I love pizza, and if I hear about a great pizzeria, I need to check it out, I need to experience it, and most importantly, I need to talk about it and write about it in the most honest fashion. So after visiting Taglio Pizza at the Massapequa location—yes, I know it was not the Mineola location that was ranked number three, but it’s the same owner, it’s the same ingredients, everything is exactly the same—I have come away with a few thoughts on the place and, of course, their pizza.

I tried three slices of pizza at the place to be as fair as possible. Their specialty is Roman-style pizza. For those who don’t know what Roman-style pizza is, it’s basically the same pizza size as Sicilian, maybe a little bigger, although the crust is not as thick—it’s much more airy and light. It’s pretty good if it’s done well, and Taglio’s does it really well. I tried their burrata slice, which is also a very popular trend right now, and of course their regular slice, because I always have to try a regular slice. The video below showcases the pizzeria inside, all the different varieties they have, and my review of the burrata slice and Cera Roman style slice. What it doesn’t showcase is the traditional slice that I also tried.

I kept the traditional slice out of the video because I had mixed feelings about it. I had heard from many other people that their regular slice was fantastic. Nonetheless, the slice I was served was very dry. It just wasn’t good. However, I felt that I had just gotten an old slice, and since the video was pretty much jam-packed talking about their sensational slices, I kind of left it out. I don’t usually do that, but I really believe that this pizzeria is that good and I just got a lousy slice. But of course, that is what they served me, and that is why I had to mention it here. Quality control is not that difficult in a pizzeria that is very busy, because they can’t keep up with making a pizza that’s selling as fast as they’re cooking it. It was slow when I was there at 2:00 in the afternoon—sometimes a pizza can sit around for a while, and I think with a regular slice, which is probably not the most popular item there, that’s what happened with that one. So, minus a few points for that. Quite frankly, that’s probably the main reason why I won’t go back there again. I don’t like paying my hard-earned money and being served something old.

Is this a pizzeria that I would recommend? Of course. Their Roman-style pizza is fantastic. The Burrata slice and the Serra Roman-style slice were wonderful. Like I said, I can’t honestly recommend their regular pizza because the slice I got wasn’t that good. I always ask myself three questions when writing about a pizzeria. Number one is, if it were in my neighborhood, would I go there frequently? I’m not sure about that one, but probably for their Burrata slice. Number two, would I make a special trip to travel far again to visit this place? That’s an easy one—no. Number three is, if I happen to be driving by, would I stop? Maybe. Nonetheless, watch the video below—if you do, you’ll probably want to go there.
