Yesterday, November 9, 2025, was a good day to be a Jets fan and visit MetLife Stadium for two reasons. The first reason is apparent to anybody who follows the sports scores: the Jets won their first home game of the season after ten games had already passed. Thanks to the special teams, Jets fans probably had the most fun they’ve had all year. The second reason was that I had one of the best food items I’ve tried this year. This is a food item that has been at the stadium since it opened in 2010. I’m talking about the New York Cheesesteak. Oh yeah, this is a good one.
In recent weeks, I’ve had a lot of disappointing food items. Most of them have been the basic items like hot dogs and burgers. However, I’ve also had some outstanding food items, such as the Sausage and Peppers Hero, the Fat Rooster Chicken Sandwich, and some of the other basics like popcorn, pretzels, and good old Carvel Ice Cream.
There are New York Cheesesteak stands scattered throughout the stadium. The one where I purchased a Cheesesteak was on a lower level right next to the Casamigos Tequila Bar. I have noticed, having been a season ticket holder since MetLife Stadium opened, that the same man has worked at this stand. He doesn’t say much, but he has some very friendly younger people working with him who are top-notch. This is a good operation. The guy who cooks up the steak knows what he’s doing.
As for the sandwich, the bread is incredibly soft. I don’t know how they do it. I don’t know how they can serve bread that’s often fresh out of the stadium, but they do. The meat is high quality. The cheese has a slight kick to it, but it complements the roll and meat perfectly. When you take a look at it, it resembles a sandwich that may require some effort to eat due to its sheer size, but no, this thing goes down really easily. It’s as tender and soft as any cheesesteak sandwich I’ve ever had. It’s one of the best cheesesteak sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. In fact, I enjoy it more than most of the cheesesteak sandwiches I’ve had in Philly at those two places, Gino’s and Angelo’s. I’d put this one up against them anytime.
Just how good is the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich at MetLife Stadium? Well, up to this point, my number one food item at the stadium has been the Premio Sausage and Peppers Hero. A close second has been the Nono Fusco Vodka Chicken Sandwich. Yes, this Philly Cheesesteak sandwich may take the top spot. In a couple of weeks, I’m going to rank them all and do a top ten, and it’s going to be a battle. It’s going to be fun to do, and I’ve got a couple more weeks to go.
After enjoying that sandwich, I began to wonder a little more about The Original New York Cheesesteak Company itself. It turns out this isn’t an independent restaurant or a local chain; it’s actually part of the Delaware North Sportservice food operation at MetLife Stadium. There are a few other items at the stadium that work similarly, created and operated entirely by Delaware North and not available anywhere else outside of MetLife. These are true stadium exclusives, developed just for fans on game day. Not every food stand in the stadium follows that model, of course, since there are also well-known brands like Carvel and Thurmans Hot Dogs serving their signature items. But the New York Cheesesteak Company seems to be one of those unique Delaware North creations made only for MetLife Stadium.
