My idea to pit Wegmans O’s against Oreos was not an article or video I had planned to do. It happened purely by accident. And that accident was called shopping. Yes, I was in Wegmans, one of my favorite supermarkets, strolling down the cookie aisle when I noticed the similarities between the Oreo packaging and Wegmans’ O’s. That same shiny blue color jumped out at me immediately. I thought, well, this might be fun to do a taste test between the classic Oreo cookie, which is probably one of the most favorite cookies in the world, against a generic store brand.

The price difference between the two brands was noticeable. The package of Oreos cost $4.99 a package and weighed 1 pound and 2.12 ounces. The Wegmans brand cost $3.49 and weighed 1 pound and 3.1 oz. So, in terms of price, the Wegmans Os was a better deal, being $1.51 cheaper while adding just a little more weight to the packages.  For many people, that’s a deal breaker right there. If you’re on a budget and your kids want Oreos, what better way to give them Oreos than with Wegmans O’s? Of course, not everyone thinks that way, and some will pay the higher price for what they assume is a better-quality cookie. But is it? Or at least does it taste better? That’s what this taste test was all about? Could Wegmans O’s come close to tasting as good as the Oreo? And even in a crazier world. Would it even be possible that Wegmans tastes better?

If you want to see the answer to that question before reading it here, I recommend watching the video below first. The video is as genuine as it gets; it’s a blind taste test. What you won’t see in the video was that I did two additional tests myself and I even went upstairs out of my studio and had my wife do the blind taste test. Four out of four times, we had the same winner. Watch the video and then read on……

Suprised? Well, I know I was. There was no way I thought the Wegmans O’s would taste better than the Oreo cookie. Maybe I just made a mistake, so I cleared my palate, drank some water, and tried again. Both times Wegmans tasted better to me. And all three of my taste tests, I did them blind. When I left the studio to tell my wife what I discovered, she didn’t believe me. So I asked her if she wanted to take the test. She informed me that she was an expert in Oreo’s and been eating them her whole life, just like the rest of us in this world. So I said, “Okay, let’s do it.”

Shen began the test and was completely shocked when she picked the Wegmans O’s as the one she thought was the Oreo, meaning the one that tasted better. That pretty much confirmed what I already knew. And now all of you know. But I know there will still be doubters. I don’t blame you. So all I can say is try it for yourself and then let me know what you think. Now I know some of you may think that this is actually an ad for Wegmans. Let me tell you something, if there’s one thing that I own in this world, it’s my honesty. I don’t believe in being paid for my reviews. I’ve had restaurants invite me to try their items.  Sometimes I go to these places, but I won’t tell them who I am; I’ll go incognito so I can give an honest review. I never take payment for anything. My payment is my honesty that makes me feel good about myself. I hope that comes through in my videos.

Oreos were first introduced in 1912 by Nabisco and have grown into one of the best-selling cookies in the world, with countless flavor variations and global distribution. Wegmans, founded in 1916 in Rochester, New York, built its reputation on high-quality private-label products that often rival national brands. So what started as a random shopping observation became something more interesting, a head-to-head comparison between a 100-plus-year-old cookie icon and a supermarket brand known for quietly competing at a high level. They are doing a pretty good job at it. I’m going to have to do more of these now.
